Proanthocyanidin, or Epicatechin, is the negative stereoisomer of Catechin (Flavan-3-ol) - it is a Flavanol. Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins are a group of colorless Flavanols composed of bonds (oligomers - i.e. dimers and trimers) of linked Flavan-3-ols (Catechins - Catechin and/or Epicatechin).

The term Proanthocyanidins is derived as follows pro = before, anthocyanins = red, referring to their colorless property and their ability to be transformed into (red) Anthocyanins.
